Advertisements LYRICS

Advertisements
guess who pays for your dinner
a vacuum with wheels that goes back and forth
beginning unknown
earth called and said spend less time believing form is function

they didn’t sell you this yes
they didn’t wrap it up in bows
they didn’t say this yet
they didn’t wrap it up in bows for you
say yes - they didn’t say this yet
they didn’t wrap it up in bows
they didn’t wrap it up in bows for you

they put the world in your pocket
baby did you lose your way
maybe they just prized your taste
we all deserve luxury
who said you were someone
who told you to believe
form over function form is function
honey don’t you know yourself

say yes
they didn’t say this yet
they didn’t wrap it up in bows
they didn’t wrap it up in bows for you

guess who you unplugged your art
sold you to yourself from the start
told you you were still in charge
honey don’t you know yourself
saw you disappointed at the mirror
its enough to know you’re here
fuck them all for selling you shame
ignore them all and come with me babe

say yes
they didn’t wrap it up in bows
they didn’t wrap it up in bows
they didn’t wrap it up in bows for you

let’s point our arrows at the stars

Derek has a fascination with fashion magazines. I get the Rufus Wainwright song stuck in my head every time I stand at with him at the counter of any convenience store or in any grocery store line. I would think he’d hate them but he’s always flipping through them.

He, with some nod (I’m guessing) to Bob Dylan, took the slogans from the pages of one, writing them down and mixing them around until they told a story about how we are so continuously sold to ourselves. This song!….

That last line cracks me up a little bit. Its a great segue into the MoonTrip song! We were recording and recognized a gap at the end. He was singing, I was reading Xeno’s paradox and was absolutely flipping out over our cigarette break about motionless arrows that lacerate the sky, and he goes in and adds that line! Love!
